Update on DANB Certification Renewal

We know that these are challenging times and many in the dental community have been affected by COVID-19. To assist you, DANB has implemented several new, temporary renewal policies. Please read below for details.

  • Extended Grace Periods
DANB will discontinue its temporary policy of offering certificants an extended, additional three-month renewal grace period (for a total of six months) starting with certificants whose certification renewal date begins 12/1/20 or later. Certificants with a certification renewal date of 12/1/20 or later will still have the original three-month grace period.
  • Late Fees
Certificants whose certification renewal date begins 12/1/20 or later will be subject to DANB’s regular renewal and late fee schedule and will be assessed a late fee if they renew within their grace period. Certificants whose certification renewal date is prior to 12/1/20 will still be eligible for the extended grace period and will be assessed a late fee within their extended grace period.
  • CPR Waiver
DANB will discontinue its temporary policy of waiving the CPR requirement for certificants who were unable to complete the CPR requirement because of COVID-19, beginning with certificants whose certification renewal date begins 12/1/20 or later.

Certificants with a certification renewal date of 12/1/20 or later will need to have a current DANB-accepted CPR, BLS or ACLS certificate – however, until further notice (dependent on the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions) DANB will temporarily accept CPR certificates that were earned online without a hands-on component.

View the list of online CPR courses offered by DANB-accepted providers.

Certificants with a certification renewal date of 11/30/20 or earlier can still apply for the CPR waiver.

  • Infection Control and OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Requirements
The requirement to earn at least 2 CDE credits in infection control and 1 CDE credit in OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens standard is still in effect. There are several free or low-cost online courses on these topics that you may complete. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact DANB at recertification@danb.org.

We hope the temporary policy changes above will assist you in renewing your DANB certification. If you need additional assistance or have other questions or concerns, please reach out to us at recertification@danb.org to discuss your options. We can work with you to find a solution.
