DANB Topical Anesthetic TA

The Topical Anesthetic (TA) exam is one of four component exams of DANB's CPFDA exam. The TA exam can be taken separately, or you can take all four component exams in one test administration. Candidates must pass all four component exams within a three-year window to apply for CPFDA certification.

DANB Step 1

Step One: Check Your Eligibility

There are no prerequisites for taking the TA exam. Therefore, anyone is eligible to apply.

DANB Step 2

Step Two: Complete the Application and Submit the Fee

To apply for DANB’s TA exam, please download and review the CPFDA application packet. This contains the TA application and deadlines. The fee for the stand-alone TA exam is $125.

What Functions Are Allowed in Your State?

Each state has different rules around the expanded functions dental assistants are allowed to perform and the requirements they must meet. DANB's CRFDA and CPFDA certifications are national, voluntary credentials that may or may not be recognized in your state. See DANB's state requirements page or check with your state dental board to learn more.
