Cynthia C. Durley, M.Ed., MBA; DANB Executive Director

Ms. Durley is Executive Director of both the DALE Foundation and the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB). She has been employed by DANB for over 30 years and by the DALE Foundation since its incorporation in 2010.

In her dual role of Executive Director to both DANB and the DALE Foundation, Ms. Durley provides leadership in organizational governance, fiscal accountability, and administrative, operations, and personnel management. She also promotes the respective missions of DANB and the DALE Foundation, and ensures that each organization’s interests are represented at the state and national levels.

Ms. Durley has held a number of leadership positions in national associations and organizations. She served as President of the American Association of Dental Administrators (AADA) and was also elected President by the membership of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence, serving on the ICE Executive Committee from 2006-2008. She continues to be active in ICE, with prior service on ICE’s Research and Development Committee as Co-Chair of the Benchmarking Best Practices in Certification Task Force and ICE’s Assessment-Based Certificate Program Accreditation Standards Task Force, and current service on the ICE Leadership Council, ICE CEO Summit Committee and ICE Editorial Digest Committee. She currently serves on the Editorial Committee for the ICE Handbook, 3rd Edition.

Prior to her work with the DALE Foundation and DANB, Ms. Durley was Manager of Examination Development and Services at the Academy of General Dentistry for four years, during which time she was also Executive Secretary of the Certifying Board of General Dentistry (now the American Board). She has developed examinations and evaluated curricula for the U.S. Navy and taught basic statistics and testing and measurement courses at Loyola University of Chicago.

Ms. Durley has a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Notre Dame, a master's degree in education from Loyola University of Chicago, and a master's degree in business administration from DePaul University.
