The Dental Assisting National Board, Inc. (DANB) is pleased to announce its 2016-2017 Board of Directors:

Election to DANB’s nine-member Board of Directors takes place by the current DANB Board, after receipt of nominations of slates of at least two qualified candidates per DANB Board vacancy, from these four dental membership organizations: the American Dental Association (2 directors), American Association of Dental Boards (1), American Dental Education Association (1) and American Dental Assistants Association (3).The remaining two DANB Board Directors are a DANB Certificant-at-Large (1, voted on by DANB certificants) and a member of the public (1, elected by DANB’s Board of Directors from nominations received by DANB’s Nominating Committee).

Joanne Dawley, D.D.S., is the newly elected Board Chair. Dr. Dawley has served on the DANB Board since 2011. Dr. Dawley was elected by DANB’s Board of Directors from a slate of qualified nominees provided by the American Dental Association (ADA). She also serves on the Board of Trustees for the DALE Foundation, the official DANB affiliate. Dr. Dawley has been an active member of the ADA at the national, state and local levels for 25 years and was president of the Michigan Dental Association in 2008. She runs her own general dental practice in Michigan.

Katharine J. Noble, CDA, CRFDA, HMC (FMF), United States Navy, is the newly elected Board Vice Chair. Ms. Noble was elected by DANB's Board of Directors from a slate of qualified nominees provided by the American Dental Assistants Association (ADAA). She works as a dental assistant at Evergreen Dental Associates and is a dental assisting educator with Turbyne and Associates and Helping Hands Trade School. Ms. Noble is also a Hospital Corpsman, Chief Petty Officer, in the U.S. Navy Reserve and the Senior Enlisted Leader for Expeditionary Medical Facility Bethesda in Bangor, Maine, and has won numerous awards for her service.

Denise Romero, CDA, COA, RDA, M.A., is the newly elected Board Secretary-Treasurer. Ms. Romero was elected by DANB's Board of Directors from a slate of qualified nominees provided by the ADAA. Ms. Romero teaches dental assisting as an associate professor for Pasadena City College and is a consultant for dental offices. She is active in many professional associations, including the ADAA and the Board of Directors for the California Association of Dental Assisting Teachers.

Lois Bell, CDA, CPFDA, CRFDA, FADAA, was elected to DANB’s Board in August 2016. She was elected by DANB's Board of Directors from a slate of qualified nominees provided by the ADAA. A dental assistant for more than 40 years, Ms. Bell works at the VA Greenville Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Greenville, South Carolina.

Patricia Capps, CDA, RDH, M.S., is serving her second three-year term on DANB’s Board. Ms. Capps was elected by DANB's Board of Directors from a slate of qualified nominees provided by the American Dental Education Association (ADEA). She is the Director of Distance Learning at the Indiana University School of Dentistry’s dental assisting program. She is also the Councilor of the Dental Assisting Education Section for the ADEA.

Karen L. Comisi, CDA, RDA, FADAA, joined DANB’s Board in 2015. Ms. Comisi was elected by DANB's Board of Directors from a slate of qualified nominees provided by the American Association of Dental Boards. She is the Office Manager and Chief Financial Officer at Dental Care with a Difference, PC. She also works as a consultant and speaker. In 2011, Ms. Comisi was appointed as the dental assistant on the New York State Board for Dentistry. There, she chairs the Reference Manual Committee and the Committee on Dental Assistant Law, Rules and Regulations.

Michael Conte, D.M.D., M.P.H., was elected to DANB’s Board in August 2016. Dr. Conte was elected by DANB's Board of Directors from a slate of qualified nominees provided by the ADA. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry and the Senior Associate Dean for the Office of Clinical Affairs at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine.

Sandra Garcia, CDA, RDA, was elected as the DANB Board of Directors Certificant-at-Large in 2015. Ms. Garcia was elected from a slate of candidates voted on by DANB certificants. She is the dental operations manager for Centromed, one of Texas’ largest nonprofit Federally Qualified Health Centers.

Linda Golodner, B.A., was elected as the public member of DANB’s Board in 2011. Ms. Golodner was elected by DANB’s Board of Directors from nominations received by DANB’s Nominating Committee. She is the Principal of Consumer Initiatives, which advises nonprofit, government and for-profit groups on consumer healthcare, corporate social responsibility and product safety.

DANB thanks outgoing Directors Frank Maggio, D.D.S., and Mary Harrison, CDA, EFDA, EFODA, FADAA. They recently completed their terms after six years of service on the Board. Dr. Maggio will continue to serve on the DALE Foundation Board of Trustees, for which he is 2016-2017 President-Elect.
