DANB’s Certification and Component Exams

States may implement competency measurement requirements for dental assistants by recognizing or requiring DANB’s national certifications and exams. State dental boards may recognize DANB's CDA exam or one or more of DANB’s component exams as meeting the state’s dental assisting regulatory requirements for performing expanded functions.

DANB’s State-Specific Exams

DANB develops and administers state-specific exams that fulfill regulatory requirements. Currently, DANB develops and administers exams for Delaware, Maryland, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Oregon and Washington. All states that work with DANB to develop state-specific exams currently recognize the CDA exam as meeting that state’s regulatory requirements.
